If you are in the forest, you are not alone. Beneath the soil of the forest lies a labyrinth of roots and fungi, which scientists call the mycorrhizal network or “woodweb”. The two complement each other's strengths and achieve a win-win situation - plants photosynthesize, providing a carbon source for fungi. Fungi, in turn, utilize the vast mycelial network underground to net out soil water and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus, which are exchanged to the plants. The two have evolved together for nearly 400 million years, and today, most plants have developed their own mycorrhizal networks.
Therefore, this group takes this as the starting point of our research to study the distribution pattern of the mycelial network and the information transfer between mycorrhizal networks, and at the same time, we make use of the underlying logic of the mycorrhizal network, which is diversified, centerless, irregular, and de-hierarchical, to break down the characteristics of the inherent model of dualism, centrality, normativity, and hierarchy, in order to propose a better solution to some of the phenomena and problems of the city nowadays.
